New York City, NY – September, 2011 – Control Solutions International conducted two presentations for the New York City Chapter IIA workshop on September 16, 2011. There were 60 in attendance for this workshop.
The first presentation on on “Internal Audit’s Role in Fraud Detection” was conducted by Kathi Loftus, Senior Manager for our Internal Audit & Risk Management Practice. This session familiarized the attendees with the current auditing standards along with some of the signs that may indicate fraud is likely to occur or already going on. Attendees participated in case study analyses adapted from actual instances where auditors had uncovered fraudulent activity. Participants were able to draw conclusions and then evaluate those conclusions as part of a group discussion.
The second presentation on “Security in the Cloud – What to ask your Cloud Service Provider”, was conducted by Thomas Daggett, Director, Internal Audit & Risk Management Practice and Allen Lum, Director, Information Technology & Security. Over the past several years, major advances have been made in technology that have resulted in a proliferation of cloud service offering from vendors such as, Amazon, Google and Salesforce.com. Many of these offering include the storage of back-up, cloud based web applications, enterprise CRM packages and emails. This session covered the current state of cloud service offerings and the critical items that an organization should ask a potential cloud vendor before signing a contract for cloud services.
